No, I swear, there are Democrats in Texas, and surprise, they are actually respectable, God-fearing members of their respective communities. I must be dreaming. Yes, it's a sweet, happy dream. Oh, how I wish it were true. OUCH! Who pinched me? Wait, I'm not dreaming. It's all true! It's true Toto, this isn't Kansas, and there is no place like home, but I think Texas just got a little closer to home.

For those of you who think you are still dreaming, this ought to bring you back down to Earth a little. Who are the Bell County Texas Democratic Women? If you concentrate real hard you might gain some insight from that vague nom de guerre. sorry to disappoint the Righties who think all Democrats are, as Rush Limbaugh might describe, "a bunch of unemployed maggot infested, long-haired pinkos." They're not idealistic college art students living off their parent's Master card, illegal aliens or Communists attempting to subvert the nation into a Marxist utopia. Don't take my word for it. Their leadership and membership stands on its own.
Many of the 60 or so regular members are middleaged and retired Professionals. for more than 20 years the group has actively championed social issues and justice, organized voting drives and volunteerism.Though they are a Democratic organization they are not PAC, and do not advocate for specific candidates. and don't let the name fool ya. Men are welcome to join and participate. Membership crosses every economic, racial, religious and gender boundries. Truly, with Baptist, Gay, Straight, Black, White, Hispanic, white collar and Union folks BCTDW reflects the true diversity of their community.
Retired Doctor James McClendon acts as historian, and chairs the education council with his wife Ola. The education council identifies talented local highschool students and offers college scholarships. President Yvonne Morgan holds a PHD in Psychology, while Sonjanette Bailey-Crossely, whose husband is a Baptist Minister in Temple, completed her PHD in Social Work. Ron and Glenda Turck, married almost 47 years are active in the community and in their local church. Glenda relies on her teaching experience, while Ron is a reitred Union member, who still laments an accidental vote cast for Nixon.
So there you have it. The Bell County Texas Democratic Women(and men). Hardworking regular folks from every walk of American life, fighting for justice and the little guy. Now that's the America I want to live in. God bless you all, and welcome to the godsblog network.

Who'd a thunk it. hard working regular folks, fighting for justice and the little guy would normally be considered to be Republican, at least here in Kentucky, where all of the millionair rich elite and snobbies are democrats, like our last elected congressman - who has never worked a day in his life from inheriting mega millions liquor fortune.
Makes a great case for getting big money out of Washington, and havingpublically financed only elections. Makes sense if we expect politicians to stick to budgets, pay bills and reduce deficits. The current system where these guys spend from bottomless pits of money doesn't really encourage that! I'd like to see some regular folks who know what it is to struggle and get along and compromise to get the job done. Good comment. Thanks.
