Use to be that even capitalists took the occasion to pause and reflect upon the Fourth of July. Instead commerce and big corporations have degraded the sacrifice of American men and women, and the forefathers into just another shopping holiday. The malls, the Targets, Krogers and WalMarts were all open yesterday because nothing, not the blood and sacrifice offered up for this counrty interrupts the almighty Dollar and consumerism.
We have seen at a rapid pace with the Bush administration the steady erosion of important and reverent holidays. People flock to airports for special Christmas fares to jet off to the islands rather than gathering with friends and families. This is what the Republicrooks have given us, along with a failing economy, the dashing of the American dream and a time in which we are hated and despised. The Dollar has sunk and Bush's friends have raided and emptied the treasury. We are in an endless war with almost five thousand American lives squandered without making us any safer, and perhaps less safe than before 9-11. And Bush tells us to go shopping. And many Americans, reduced to mere consumers, taught that American culture is buying endless crap. I'm sure that's what the founding fathers envisioned.
As for this pinko liberal, this unabashed Democrat, the believer in the words of the Declaration of Independence which said that "ALL men are created equal, endowed by their creator certain unalienable rights," this accused America hater for daring to criticize crimes the country commits, I stayed home yesterday. I thought about what America was, what it has become and what it must return to. I spent the day with my wife and friends and was reverent on this glorious day of sacrifice and achievement. Did you?

Not everyone is Christian, why shouldn't they go where they please for the Christmas holidays? Even if they are Christian why shouldn’t they go on holiday if they wish?
Why shouldn’t a business be allowed to be open if it so chooses? On ANY holiday?
I personally like to be able to go to the store on a day when I forgot the butter.
We dare sport an Obama bumper sticker on our car in the heart of GOP territory.
We too spent part of the day thinking about what we mean by "all men are created equal" and how hard it is to build a country on an idea of freedom and human goodness.
An awful lot of people simply don't know that any day is different from any other day unless there is a sale or extra pay.
Good post. Keep up the good work.
